We are all connected through our consciousness. The consciousness in you, me, and the consciousness of the world is, apparently, one super consciousness.

The moment we realize that god is in the heart of every one of us when we can see that god is in every being, we become free of bondage.

As Swami Vivekananda quoted once

“The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him — that moment I am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free”.

  • Swami Vivekanand.

How do we get to that state where we become fearless, calm, serene and devoid of greed, avarice, hatred and negativity? It is only possible through the journey inside, awakening the Kundalini.

In Hinduism, Kundalini (कुण्डलिनी) means a coiled snake’, is a form of divine feminine energy (or Shakti) believed to be located at the base of the spine in the Muladhara is the root Chakra.

Kundalini energy is awakened by following a Guru or by intense meditation, pranayama and Yoga.

Kundalini is mentioned in the Hindu Sacred Text Sri Lalitha Sahasra Naamam in Verse 40, but detailed Chakras or Plexuses are defined from Slokas/Verses 38, 39 and 40.

Kundalini with the Knots or Granthi’s

Sri Lalitha Shasranamam Lalita Sahasranama (ललिता सहस्रनाम) is a sacred Hindu text from the Brahmanda Puranam, which lists a thousand names of the Hindu mother goddess Lalita Parameshwari, a manifestation of the Divine Mother (Shakti).

mūlādhāraika nilayā, brahmagranthi vibhēdinī ।

maṇipūrānta ruditā, viṣṇugranthi vibhēdinī ॥ 38 ॥

She whose principal abode is the mUlAdhAra

She who breaks through the knot of Brahma (Brahma Granthi or knot)

She who emerges in the maNipUra cakra ( The Naval Chakra)

She who breaks through the knot of viShNu (The Knot/Granthi of Vishnu)

ājñā chakrāntarāḻasthā, rudragranthi vibhēdinī ।

sahasrārāmbujā rūḍhā, sudhāsārābhi varṣiṇī ॥ 39 ॥

She resides at the centre of the Aj~nA chakra (the brow plexus)

She who breaks through the knot of shiva ( Rudra Granthi or the knot of Shiva/Rudra)

She who ascends to the thousand-petaled lotus

She who pours out streams of ambrosia

taṭillatā samaruchiḥ, ṣaṭ-chakrōpari saṃsthitā ।

mahāśaktiḥ, kuṇḍalinī, bisatantu tanīyasī ॥ 40 ॥

She who is as beautiful as a flash of lightning,

She resides above the six chakrAs.

She is greatly attached to the festive union of shiva and shakti

She who has the form a coil

She is fine and delicate as the fibre of the lotus.

If we want to journey inside, we must follow the path of many yogis and enlighted ones. We need to break through each chakra/plexus in a systematic and disciplined manner, starting from the Muladhara the root plexus.

In my next blog, I will discuss the nuances and technical details of each chakra, Chakra Dhayana ( meditation), associated deities of each chakra, and other finer details that help us to embark on our inner journey.
